Galicia is the place where the Spanish go to enjoy good food and good wine. Here, in the north of the Iberian Peninsula, they make spectacular wines, far away from large factories and mechanical work. Here in Galicia, the perfect world of wine still exists.

The wine tasting takes place at Pencil and Fork (Alfredo Vicenti 29, La Coruña) and together we will discover the world of Galician wine.

In two hours we will explain everything about the world of wine and how to taste it. Who are these Galicians who make their wines in small towns, far from tourism and a lot of infrastructure? Why are their wines so special, what stories and anecdotes are told? When did the first vines come to Galicia and why is Galician wine so popular in the world of wine?

We will try Albariño, the region’s most famous grape, but also wines from less known and surprising grapes. In total, we will taste four wines from the five Galician denominations of origin: Rias Baixas, Ribeiro, Valdeorras, Ribeira Sacra and Monterrei.

Galicia is a rather small wine area compared to other regions in Spain (a total of 30,000 hectares) and even then there are many differences between the wines. A Godello from Valdeorras is completely different from a Treixadura from Ribeiro. And a Mencía from the Ribeira Sacra has nothing to do with a Brancellao from the Rías Baixas. We will talk about the differences and why they exist in our tasting.

There will also be a variety of delicious Galician cheeses and a tapas selection.

Our sommelier Lara Martens chooses the wines for the tasting according to season and thus each tasting is a unique experience. Lara Martens is from Germany, but has been living in Spain since 2015. Apart from being Sommelière at Pencil and Fork, she is the owner of the online store Ocaldo.shop where she sells Galician wines for the German market. Since 2020 she has been able to introduce different Galician wines in wine bars throughout Germany. She is an accredited wine expert and knows the Galician world and its wines perfectly.

Cancellations made 72 hours or more in advance of the event date will receive a 100% refund. Otherwise, a voucher of the same amount will be offered in order to book future activities. Cancellations made by the organiser will incur on a 100% refund.
